REARGUARD 2010 15mm
And now for something a little different from the usual 800 pt stand up fight . We all play with equal sized armies all the time, rather than facing the challenges a general has where they have to grit it out with fewer troops; or need to take full advantage of having more troops. Similar format to last year with 2 small tweaks based on feedback.
Armies and tables: 15mm FOG armies from any army list book on 6’x 4’ tables.
Army Design: Choose any date and then design THREE variants of the army of 700, 800 and 900 points. The army uses the PBI of the 800 pt army throughout the competition (so that the army choice can come after terrain-see below). FF are not allowed - or everyone might just fortify their 700pt army. Allies can change, but the date must stay the same.
Competition Rules: Over 4 games the 800 pt army must be used TWICE and the 700 and 900 must be used ONCE each. You choose which army to play AFTER terrain has been deployed. So you know who, what and where you are playing before deciding. On average therefore you should have 2 uneven games out of the 4 to be played - giving a different type of challenge. This year the decisions will be kept secret and there is no need to announce to your opponent which variant you are using.
Scoring System: The normal FOG scoring system will be used for the 20 - 0 components but the 5 bonus for army routs will be altered as below. This will encourage aggressive play and provides rewards for doing well with difficult match ups:
|
Army Rout achieved with 200pt deficit |
10 |
|
Army Rout achieved with 100 pt deficit |
7 |
|
Army Rout achieved with equal armies |
5 |
|
Army Rout achieved with 100pt surplus |

Army Rout achieved with 200pt surplus |

|
|
14-6 or better victory with 100pt deficit |
2 |
|
14-6 or better victory with 200pt deficit |
5 |
Draw: First round draw will be done by date order to match historical opponents a much as possible - thereafter Swiss chess format.
Byes: a bye will score 15 initially and be altered to your average score from other games at the end of the competition.
Umpire and Organiser : Simon Hall, sahwargames@aol.com with any questions and with army lists at least 1 week before the event please.
So all to play for even with uneven armies. He or she who can manage to defeat a 900pt army with a 700pt army will get a bonus of 10! Someone nearly managed it last year. New bonuses for doing well with smaller armies will also help the challenge.
