New Rules
A) Command Vehicles
Command vehicles have a number of functions.
1) Coordinating movement
2) Coordinating indirect fire
3) Locating inbound indirect fire
4) Controlling counter-battery fire.
Up to now, it has been left that a command vehicle and command crew can do any or all of these things simultaneously. However, that is unrealistic and has led to issues in the way action points are allocated.
Therefore, from now on, each unit of AI must be assigned to a certain task at the start of an encounter. This can be changed at the cost of 1 AP per point of AI in the players turn by informing the umpire.
A single unit of AI can be assigned to
1) Command and control
Adds 1 AP to the dice total for the unit it is attached to. Can control up to 3 TUs of indirect fire (mortars etc) that are actually attached to the unit. (Organic artillery)
2) Indirect fire control
Controls the artillery ‘net’ for the entire force. Can control up to 3 TU’s of indirect fire weapons. It can be combined with other command vehicles to extend the ‘net’.
3) Counter battery fire control
Controls the spotting of, and fire against enemy artillery.
Each AI dedicated to this task allows up to 3 radar observation attempts per turn. It also allows up to 3 observed targets to be tracked. Each target tracked reduces the number of spotting attempts allowed by 1.
It also allows up to 3 artillery TUs to be controlled in a dedicated counterbattery role.
Without a command vehicle, a unit can only have 2 TU of indirect fire per turn in direct support (i.e. attached to the unit) as there isn’t the command and control capacity to control more.
B) Cavalry Rules
Infantry TUs can train to be specialist Cavalry TUs. Unlike other specialities, TUs moving from Infantry to cavalry do not drop a grade (or two) but do lose half their experience points. They are then considered to be equally proficient as infantry or cavalry.
Cavalry cost 50 Cr on top of the cost of the infantry stand and move at 12. They count marsh and deep water as difficult going.
Any kill or suppressed to death results will mean that the horses will need to be replaced.
