Day 1

On 22nd June `507 the authorities in Talis city on the continent of Kernow were notified of a suspected outbreak of Talis fever, affecting the downtown poor area.  Talis Metro Police attempted to bring the initial outbreak under control, but were hampered by their own close proximity to the outbreak and were not able to bring off duty officers to duty status before the station was overwhelmed.   The Infected nicknamed `Zombies` run riot in the city.
Contingents from three mercenary companies broke through to the space port but were unable to leave the planet as quarantine had to be declared.    All ships in orbit were despatched to the system jump points to ask for aid from the Cal Tex and PAU governments.

The mercenaries who were attempting to get off planet were ordered back to the surface as the planet advised all ships in orbit of quarantine.   The shuttles landed near the town of Fowey down before they ran out of fuel.   The message to Cal Tex should take around two weeks to arrive, PAU about twice as long.    The planet can expect little help for a month.     With luck however Talis Space navy elements should return from the outer planets in around 12 days, and should be in good comms range by 3rd July.

It became apparent within a couple of hours that what was thought to be a local outbreak was in fact a planetary wide one.    Initially communications between the continents were maintained but little by little both the power and telecoms grids collapsed as their maintenance staff  have been unable to get to work, or have been killed.
Many army units `cadres’ were despatched to deal with the crisis but in nearly all cases have proved inadequate to the task.  Most were overwhelmed.  This has meant that the reservists that should be dealing with the crisis have not responded to the call up as most cannot get to their bases.

At the end of the first day the main forces to deal with an emergency were in disarray, and communications were faltering.     The main authorities to deal with the situation also found themselves trapped in the city and in need of rescue.     The only viable military force in the Capital area was at Fowey, a town with a population of about 5000 15 KM West of Talis City.  This force consisted of about 100 Police, Army and Mercenaries, poorly equipped and with inadequate training.

Day 2 (23rd June)

The mercenaries, police and the small army cadre based at temporary HQ at Fowey, Pending any instructions from elsewhere and with consideration of the mercenary’s desire to get off planet decided to get fuel for the shuttles. A successful raid made on a fuel depot near the spaceport.
All contact with other continents lost.

Day 3 (24th June)
With fuel available the mercenaries with police and army support were requested to move surviving the government ministers and their immediate staff from the capitol building, and evacuating the `Talis fever’ research team from the main hospital.  Despite heavy fighting this mission was a success.     More Police also made it out of the capital.
The Government prioritise setting up the research facility, while their staff try to contact other continental and state capitals.   Little success on the first day.
First notice of `fast’ Zombies.

Day 4 – 7 (25th  June to 28th July)
Sporadic fighting approaches Fowey, and many refugees were directed to towns further West so far unaffected by the plague.   The science team have been working up a possible cure for which they need a delivery system.    Limited radio contact has been established with a logistic base to the South of Fowey, and efforts are being made to contact the navy.
Although not in contact it appears some of the armed `non government groups’ – (militias) are fighting the victims and to some extent are settling old scores and fighting each other.    Food distribution has completely broken down in urban areas.
A mission is sent to the logistics base on 28th July.  This has some success in recovering men and materials.    A second platoon of Government troops succeed in joining the defenders of Fowey.

Day 8 (1 July)    Fowey is attacked and after heavy fighting the area around it cleared.   The antidote is a qualified success.    It is discovered after the battle that the plague is artificial.

Day 9 (2nd July)    A new threat is identified as a large group of armed citizens take control of the village of Redruth some 20 KM North of Fowey.   In itself this is not a problem except that this group seem to be raiding other citizens to acquire food, so they are adding to the problems.
Production of the antidote is ramping up.   The antidote’s success should also work if sprayed onto plague victims.    Unfortunately the nearest airfield with suitable aircraft is at Redruth.    A mission is put together to make this airfield into a secondary base and to break the group that are raiding.

Day 10 (3rd July)   The attack upon the airfield at Redruth is a success with four units of enemy militia routed for little loss among the Government supporters.  Of particular importance is the capture of several aircraft, and a large radio transmitter which enables contact to be re-established with other towns around the capital.
Air reconnaissance detects a much larger force of Redruth militia moving to attack Fowey from the West.   Rushing troops back from the airfield the Militia is held in a bloody fight just West of Fowey.
Concern is also mounting as the system security ships have not been heard from.   They should have been contacted by the merchantmen who left on the first day of the outbreak.    The Government is worried that help might not be on its way.

Day 11 (4th July)
