Event Definitions
General Information
While these may seem familiar, there arequirks and other differences that make for a need for careful reading of these events.
Gales at Sea
These events immediately affect all sea areas. The ship must put into the nearest port (the owner gets to choose which if there is a choice) where it may be detained (or not). If the port is defended and not friendly, the occupants of the ship are outside the fortifications.
Storms at Sea
These events take effect immediately. They name a sea area. Any ship in that sea area that is at sea is lost as the tempest overwhelms it. Ships in other sea areas are affected as per 'Gales'.
English ships that are lost are placed in chancery pending the voting of funds for reconstruction by Parliament. Foreign ships are returned to their home port.
Free Moves
These events may be kept in-hand by a player and played at the end of any normal movement phase and prior to encounters being resolved. They allow any one ship, noble or royal to move again.
Plagues
These events take immediate effect. The occupants of the named town/city sadly catch the plague and die. This will affect defenders of a town/city under siege and the town/city immediately capitulates if a plague occurs.
Raids and Revolts
These events take immediate effect. They are resolved in several steps:-
- The Raiders/Revolting Peasants are placed
- The Nobles required to put down the Raid/Revolt are commissioned to attend if in the same country (Calais is part of the British Mainland for the purpose of summoning the Captain)
- The factions may use Writs to substitute other nobles for those required to attend
- The Nobles are moved to their attendance

Conditions:-
- There is more than 1 King/Queen/Regent of England

- The Chancellor of England is at a Town or City

This event is executed immediately if the condition is met, and discarded if not usable.
Conditions:-
- There must be No King/Queen/Regent or more than 1 King/Queen/Regent
Parliament is convened at the nearest Town/City to the Noble Leader of the faction
Writs and Commissions
These cards may be held in-hand by players until required. They have various uses:-
- They may be used to force a Noble to attend Parliament
- They may be used to allow a commissioned Noble to send a Deputy to fulfil the commission
- They may be used to commission a noble to form part of a Royal Army.
- They may be used by the faction controlling the sole King/Queen/Regent to force a Noble to attend court and swear fealty to that king or be subject to a bill of attainder at the next parliament.
War, Peace and Alliances
When war is declared, it happens instantly. Basically similar to a Raid or Revolt, the named nobles are commissioned to form a Royal Army with a specific objective. The Army may not break up until the objective is met. Additional Nobles may be commissioned to form part of the Army.
Embassies
These are similar to Raids and Revolts except that there are no rebels, the sole King/Queen/Regent (if any) must attend and may not commission a deputy to attend in his/her place.
Sieges
These events can generally be kept for use when required (i.e. when besieged).
Catastrophes
These events reduce the forces available to a Noble. The cause is not stated but can include Sickness, Mutiny for Arrears of Pay, etc.
Vacillation
These events may be kept in hand for use later. They may be played at any time up to the deployment of the specific battlegroup(s) on the battlefield or the declaration of a siege. They may NOT be played once one or more battlegroups have been deployed for battle or upon Nobles under siege in their own castles. They may be played in several ways:-
- Played against a Noble, that noble immediately retires to their home castle (or the nearest friendly castle to their home).
- Played against a Mercenary, that Mercenary immediately changes sides.
- Played during a siege of an un-occupied (by a noble) Castle, Royal Castle, Town or City, that fortification immediately capitulates
Treachery
These events affect a player immediately. A number of cards/events in-hand are returned to the appropriate decks.

These events cause a (random) Royal to die or a Royal Hier/Pretender to be born/created
Pardons
These events may be kept in hand until needed. They allow a noble to be spared execution and to return to his home castle.
